Most of you will know what is recoverable from a mobile phone or will think of the obvious. Some people still ask "can you get data from an Android phone". It is not just Apple Phones we extract data from.
Here are some examples of the tens of thousands of different makes and models of phones. There are too may to list.
Chinese phones and chipsets
We can also extract data from portable GPS devices and stand alone devices in vehicles.
Portable music players including MP3 players and iPods
External hard drives, SD cards, thumb drives, USB's, Micro SD's, MMC's
One of our most simple methods of extraction for data recovery on a mobile phone is a Logical extraction. A logical extraction is used to extract live data from the phone and will not recover deleted data.
For data recovery, we use forensic tools which talk to the operation system using API which allows data to be extracted from the phone. The data can include 3rd party apps on the phone such as Facebook, SnapChat, Line, Viber, e-mail along with standard information such as MMS, Text, Photographs, Call logs, Notes etc...
We then move on to a file system extraction which will extract data from the internal memory rather than use API to communicate. Here we can extract deleted data. Deleted data generally stays in a space which we term “unallocated space” and can be recoverable. Once the phone needs to free up some space, it will then start to overwrite data in “unallocated space”. Once written over, the data has gone and not recoverable.
The 3rd option is a Physical extraction which is a bit by bit copy of the phone or a full image.
By taking a full image of the phone, we can access all live and deleted data bearing in mind that not all phones are supported for a Physical extraction. If for example; Apple or some of the popular Android phones have up to date security measures, a Physical is not possible.
In all cases, we ask for the make and model of phone and in particular IOS version or security version on androids so we can make a decision before we receive your phone to ensure you know the chances of phone data recovery.
From 2011 to 2017, approximately, there were 38 million iPhones sold in the UK.
There is a huge percentage of those numbers where something has gone wrong. Usually, we are talking hardware, software failures or accidents.
iphones can hold huge amounts of data including work data, sentimental photographs, chat data, data which can be used in a court of law, notes, bitcoin passwords, call logs, contacts etc.. you get the picture!
In the first instance, many people go to the provider of the phone or, the manufacturer (Apple). Apple tend to give out varied advice in-store and my thoughts are, they are given standard training/advice. This advice is not wrong by any means however, what some people are failing to be told is, where there is a failure, like a boot loop, you are advised to factory reset or restore the phone. This would assist in attempting to put the phone right again by way of restoring.
The problem here is, if you do that, you will lose all your data and you should use www.phonedatarecovery.co.uk to attempt to recover the data first.
Some of our clients ask "why don't Apple tell you this" and my response is "they are not a data recovery company". This is not their job so to speak and you may/may not agree however, they are first and foremost a retail company. Phone data recovery is a specialist job and requires a lot of training and something we do day in/day out. Apple simply cannot do this. We say "leave selling to Apple and leave data recovery to us".
Some store assistants have knowledge of data recovery companies and do recommend but, I put that down to complimentary information not compulsory dependant on who you speak to.
With iPhones, it is possible to get phones out of a bootloop and recover data from broken/water damaged phones but, the success rate is not 100%. The severity of damage will determine the outcome of recovery.
There is a simple process to go through which does not require "more senior technicians" to examine. We hear quite often that phones go to data recovery companies and are told they need a "senior technician". This is complete nonsense. Checking all the components should give you a diagnostic at a lot of levels. It should not cost any more money the further up the chain it goes.
We have one fixed cost in all cases and we do not hold your data to ransom. Our process is:
If we can get the data, you pay. If we don't get the data. There is a minimum charge of £25.00, that's it...
The New Year is upon us and new adventures around the corner. www.phonedatarecovery.co.uk wish you all a very happy new year. Some helpful tips for a night out:
1. Fully charge your battery
2. Text 3 members of family or friends to let them know where you will be
3. Check in on Facebook (if you have it)
4. Meeting people you have never seen before? Take a picture. If they are friendly, they won’t mind!
5. Never leave your drink unattended or accept one from a stranger. If you do accept, take a picture of them.
6. Store at least 3 taxi numbers before you leave
7. Activate “GPS” on your phone
8. Activate “find my phone”

10. If you are in a cab on your own, call someone to let them know and send them the pictures including one of the driver.
Your mobile phone stores a huge amount of data and can tell a story in the event that an incident occurs. This can be invaluable in some cases.
Stay safe everyone and record your night out for safety and the memories!!Happy New Year!! Stay safe ;)
Very often we have clients that ask "what data can you get from an iPhone" or they say "I only want specific data"
With iPhone data recovery, we will ask a few questions to determine the chances of getting the data.
Firstly, if it is a working iPhone and you have the passcode to later versions, it is possible to recover all manner of data however, third party apps are a little more difficult but, that's not to say, we rule it out. We can still recover live and deleted data.
Another factor to take in to account when extracting data from am iPhone is, how big the memory is and how full is the storage. If your storage is full, the iPhone will keep overwriting the deleted data to make more space for live usage of the iPhone.
If the storage is less full, we have more chance of recovering deleted data.
For older versions of iPhone, it is also possible to bypass the password but, this will depend on the IOS version.
It is always worth asking questions first to determine the chances of iPhone data recovery. There is no need to diagnose, or asses the phone in the first instance. That can be done over the phone with no fees attached.
We always re-iterate to anyone, do not pay diagnostic or assessment fees to a data recovery company. It is not necessary.
A recent customer called on the off chance.
Clients mobile phone had been to two other companies claiming they could recover the data from her mobile phone.
One company charged diagnostic fees and after diagnosis, referred it up to a more senior technician for an additional £200.00 on top of the £150.00 already paid.
£350.00 later, the diagnosis was "unrecoverable".
You have to ask yourself the question when choosing the right data recovery company, "how does this work".
The simple answer to this is, don't pay fees up-front! Only pay when you have proof of recovery!
Second company claimed the chip couldn't be read!
It turns out, this company just didn't have the right reader for the chip.
Reputable data recovery companies do not charge this fee as we have more confidence in the fact that we are able to recover data.
Phone data recovery (us) have invested heavily in chip readers to ensure the majority of our phones can be read in the right way.
